MMH is a single-family dwelling defined by fractioning a villa built around the late 70’s in Palermo. The project entails a complete transformation of the pre-existing space, originally distributed on two levels on a total area of 280 m². The distribution of spaces is conceived to meet the demands of a family of father, mother, and son: the living area, with lounge and kitchen, is located at level 0 while at level 1 we find the sleeping area and services. The patio has a pivotal role, thanks to its characteristic pre-existing court structure, which represents a visual connection of all rooms. A mirrored wall with pivot hinge system amplifies the effect of continuity between external and internal spaces. The wall reflects both the internal space, appearing more spacious, and the external area, allowing wider diffusion of natural light and a better view on the vegetation.
Furthermore, specific strategies were adopted to comply with the environmental sustainability criteria: VMC systems to low waste, solar thermal, photovoltaic system, low-emissivity fixtures, and outer coat are among the implemented solutions.
